This is how Industria fared at the Champions League inauguration. "There's still a lot of work ahead of us."
Industria made a successful start to the new season of the Champions League. The Kielce team led from the first to the last minute, claiming a fully deserved victory.
"I don't think the oldest Highlanders expected such a result in Kielce. Of course, we were hoping for a victory, but we also expected the match to be close. I don't think anyone expected such a dynamic start and such a large lead. Of course, we always respected our opponent. That's why we played relatively evenly throughout the 60 minutes and avoided any major setbacks," said the Polish team's point guard, Michał Olejniczak.
"We did a great job today, and many things went better than we expected. But that's also thanks to our intense defense throughout the 60 minutes and the good support of our goalkeepers. All of this means we can be happy with two points," noted the Kielce coach.
The Kyrgyz coach, however, tempered the jubilant mood. He emphasized that the victory was only the first step and, despite his satisfaction, pointed to areas that needed improvement, such as team chemistry and the return of some players to optimal form.
The Norwegian team provided a mere backdrop for the team from the capital of the Świętokrzyskie region. The visitors unanimously agreed that the Kielce team was clearly superior on Thursday evening.
"Big congratulations to the Polish team, who played a great match. It's hard to turn the tables when you're down 1-7 early on. First of all, we had a lot of problems with our attacking play, making a lot of simple mistakes," admitted Kolstad Handball's second coach, Stian Gomo Nilsen.
The coach was impressed by the great performance of Industria goalkeeper Klemen Ferlin (15 saves, 44% effective saves) and at the same time very disappointed with his team's performance.
Kolstad player Magnus Gullerud stressed that his team made too many mistakes and had too low a percentage of shots on target to compete with a team like Industria.
"We tried to fight back, but it didn't help. We simply lost to a better team. We weren't able to match them today. We need to work very hard on our game. I hope we'll put in a much better performance in the return match against the team from Kielce," said the Norwegian team's center.
In the Kielce team, Aleks Vlah scored the most goals (seven), while for Kolstad Simon Jeppsson and Adrian Aalberg scored four goals each.
In the next round (September 18), Industria will face Sporting Lisbon away.
